Greensboro, North Carolina — Petrova Law is pleased to announce that Allie Petrova has been selected to serve as Council Director of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation. Ms. Petrova has been an active member of the ABA Tax Section since 2011.
The Council is the governing body of the ABA Tax Section, and Council Directors are responsible for directing the work of the various committees of the Section, as well as providing comments to the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of the ABA. Petrova is a John S. Nolan Fellow and previously served as Chair of the Closely Held Business Committee of the ABA Tax Section. She currently serves on the Loretta Collins Argrett Fellowship, Publications, and Nominating Committees. She has served as a speaker on ABA panels since 2017. Her term as Council Director will run from 2024 through 2025.
Petrova previously served as Chair of the Tax Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, which engages in CLE programs on tax issues, tax policy, tax pro bono projects, tax legislation projects, and annual meetings with the N.C. Department of Revenue and IRS representatives located in North Carolina.
Since its establishment in 1938, the ABA Section of Taxation has 10,000 members from all over the United States and the world. As taxation has played a greater role in policy and business, the Section’s coverage of the tax law has grown – there are now 35 specialized committees that make up the Tax Section and offer substantive programming, as well as groups including the Young Lawyer Forum, the Women in Tax Forum, and the LGBTQ+ Lawyers in Tax Forum. In additional to its regular events, the Section issues important tax publications, including its outstanding quarterly journal, The Tax Lawyer, and it runs the highly successful annual Law Student Tax Challenge program for students from all over the U.S.
